Artist Statement

I never considered myself a creative or artsy person until I discovered the power of photography. While I initially perceived art as confined to drawing, painting, or pottery, my perspective shifted during a spring break trip out west. I grabbed my mom’s old camera and began capturing moments, and from that point on, I taught myself experimenting with various techniques.

Photography, for me, serves as a means of documenting life and viewing the world through a lens, allowing me to notice details and perspectives that others might overlook. It provides endless opportunities to explore and experience life, while also serving as a place for cherished memories. My preferred photography niches are sports, street, and portrait photography. I find joy in merging my passion for sports with photography, capturing moments and unique angles that fans don’t always get to see. Street photography fascinates me as I capture the essence of urban life and the diverse narratives it holds. Portrait photography, on the other hand, allows me to show different personalities, utilizing a variety of angles and techniques to showcase their uniqueness.

Throughout my journey in photography, I have drawn inspiration from various artists. Growing up with grandparents who owned a photography business and an aunt who specializes in wedding photography, I have benefited from their guidance and expertise. Additionally, I find inspiration in contemporary artists such as North Borders and 7era, whose YouTube channels offer insightful tutorials and showcase a unique style of photography.

Next year, I plan on attending Appalachian State University to study exercise science and minor in nutrition. I plan to continue photography by being a part of the Student Media Team for App State Athletics, while also officially starting my photography business.
